1) Cardio Only Workout
Many people are simply obsessed with aerobic exercise. It does help some people to stay fit but for others injury and poor results are a very likely scenario. Consider this - prolonged cardiovascular activity can actually weaken your immune system and cause your muscle to waste away. Did you ever compare the physiques of the sprinter with that of the long-distance runner? Lean, powerful, beautiful vs. sickly, starving, emaciated.
Did you ever wonder why?
2) Using Only A Few Favorite Exercises
This is a huge problem. Most men start their workouts with Bench Press followed by Biceps Curls and ladies love to work on their Inner Thighs and the Triceps area. What about the rest of your body? This is the tricky part.
We all have unique bodies and needs, and that is why we can't just imitate someone elses exercise program or throw in a few exercises we know in no particular order and expect results. If your posture and biomechanics were never properly assessed, by an experienced professional, any exercise program is just a wish and a prayer.
A properly taught exercise program will help you to reach your goals very quickly and pain free.
3) Dieting to Lose Weight
"Diet" - perhaps it's the dirtiest word in the English language; certainly, it's the most feared! The mere mention of the word can make grown women cry and bring strong men to their knees. And yet, if you've ever tried one of the popular diets on today's pop culture menu - the Atkins's Diet, the South Beach Diet, NutriSystem, Jenny Craig, the Grapefruit Diet, the low fat/high protein diet or the low protein/high fat diet or the all ice-cream-all-day diet (I'm sure it's out there), then you already know what I know - diets don't work!
Any diet program that you decide to follow, only until you reach your goal, is destined to fail. Any modification of your eating habits that you undertake, knowing from the start that it's only temporary, is a game. And any diet that totally eliminates one essential nutrient in favor of another, is playing devil's advocate with your health.
4) Using Sweets, Caffeinated Products or Smoke to Boost Your Energy When Tired
All of the above are stimulants that trigger a stress response in your body. If you are fatigued or regularly lose energy throughout the day then your body is telling you that it needs rest and recovery time. Think of it like this - using sweets and caffeine to boost your energy is like whipping an already very tired horse. Well, one day even whipping will not help. Stop for a second and think of the consequences.
Everything has a price and you're paying it right now.
5) Cutting Back on Your Sleep to Catch Up With All The Things You'd Like to Do
Not enough time in a day? You want to see that Late Night Show but you have to be up at work early in the morning?
Deciding to exercise instead of precious sleep is very stressful on the body. The majority of the symptoms we see in our clients are due to sleep deprivation and the disruption of natural sleep/wake cycles.
Now take a long look in the mirror. Who do you see?
Do you see someone who's tired of sucking in their stomach, sticking out their chest or icing their elbow? Do you look yourself in the eye and wonder, "When did this happen to me and how do I take back my life?"
